The Urban Poets - Blues with rock 'n' soul. Click here to enter site

The Urban Poets were originally formed in 1989 as a rock and pop 5 piece aiming to hit the high time as the 'next big thing'!! Many years and various musical projects followed until in 2007 a fortuitous e-mail exchange heralded a new phase for the band as the Poets regrouped as a no holds barred 3 piece blues band.

do exactly as it says on the tin!!
Blues, rock 'n' soul and more blues all played with a touch of rocky Scottish soul!

As a 3 piece blues band The Urban Poets have played everything from small pubs to large festivals. Venues across Central Scotland include The Cross Keys, Burn's Bar, The Steamie, The Cedar Inn, 3 Monkeys, Whistlebinkies, Waverley Hotel, The Horseshoe Bar, Citizen Smiths, Scruffy Murphys, The Tally Ho, Seahaven Hotel, Mhor Fish, Dexter's and many more including several private parties and even a Hogmanay bash or two.

At blues festivals across Scotland The Urban Poets have enjoyed success in the Scottish Borders, Dundee, Arbroath and Callendar and in 2009 played the prestigious Harley Davidson Thunder In The Glens Rally to an arena of around 1400 happy punters!

On a quieter note, the acoustic duo of Myles and George have very much enjoyed the more intimate nature of the unplugged experience.

In addition to a wide and varied catalogue of covers TUP have penned a few songs of their own. A long awaited debut CD - Impassionate Dreams - was released to much acclaim in December 2008.

If you are looking for some fresh takes on stomping classics, inspirational original tunes, a driving good time boogie or some soulful heartfelt blues then The Urban Poets will definitely strike the right chord!

At the age of 14 Myles was making his guitar sing the blues and despite himself has played in several bands over the years playing a wide range of covers and a fair whack of self penned material. He has played support to The Sensational Alex Harvey , Bo Weevil and many indie bands over the years including One Size Fits All , Baby Bartok , Ranacanteen and the Yosemities .

Through the 90's Myles fronted two successful blues / rock outfits Demyjam and Medyl. From 2003 through to the end of 2007 he played the blues with Edinburgh based band Rosyblue until reforming The Urban Poets.

The rest is, as they say, is history...................

George on Precision

With deeply oriental roots Dodi takes a scary photograph! He has played bass guitar since his school days and has strutted his thang in noodles of bands. With a strangely infectious interest in the experimental he has played a wide range of styles and written several albums worth of original material. He has depped on many occasions in club bands giving him a large repertoire of varied material.

A keen bike enthusiast Dodi likes a good ride and often gets down and dirty, frequently testing his leathers to the absolute max!

Currently he also plays with Edinburgh based Country band Interstate 6 .

RJ brings tremendous experience to the band. His knowledge of songs is incredible and can turn his hand to almost any style. Emerging originally from a small village in Southern Finland during the halcyon days of the 1970's our RJ has played the drums on the club and pub scene with many of the greats.

However, of a weekend he can still be seen rallying his trusty Berlingo on the slopes of Whistler and the glens of Bonaly. Truly sartorial in style the rumour is that he was the inspiration for Billy Gibbons to write about Sharp Dressed Men.
